Ruin paper element fuel filters? I ran it all the time in my 68 cuda with a see through paper element and have never had a fuel system related problem. Never saw it "clean all the rust out of the tank" or even had 40 year old rubber line give me an issue. I think a lot of guys have issues they just want to blame on the ethanol. It is actually a preservative and not corrosive, you can drink straight ethanol and live to tell.

Okay, I will reword my post. Some of the adhesives used in paper filters have been known to break down from the use of E85. The paper itself doesn't. Which brand of filters fail? I do not know. Google e85 and fuel filters. You will find a plethora of information.

What are the disadvantages of E85 on a street/strip car? Is there any issue if the car sits for a couple of months? What needs to be changed beside the carb?
I've left a full tank in my car over the winter and it fired right up in the spring... now days just to be on the safe side I drain it and add just regular gas and idle on it while I pour in oil into the carb while it just runs out of fuel(to lube the bores)

Availability of stations that have it.
That was my thought.
The first year I ran E85 with a carburator, I used my old Fram HPG-1 fuel filter (paper element); and after checking it a couple times during that period (including the end), the element was just fine.

The only thing about storing the car for long periods is the ethanol will absorb water... the water is the problem.... you could seal the vent BUT the expansion will be a problem

Condensation in the fuel tanks, metal or in fuel cells,is a big problem in airplanes that sit long peroids of times, especially in wet climates Alcohol of most types suck water out of the atomshpere, mixed with water Methannol makes acids that kills aluminum I don't know about ethanol, probally not like Methanol at all Anyone know for sure the results on ethanol and water mixed together?

I'm convinced, e85 for me, when I get my car going. But also want it efi.
XFI for that one. The EZ efi unfortunetly will not work with E85...
I was thinking about it for my latest car, but very few stations carry it, even though I am one town away from the plant that makes it.

Did you go to the E85 gas station search? There are a few around you and one in Lockport itself. I have ran E85 all last year and love the stuff.I just started the car up 4 days ago when we had spring. (now we are back to winter and snow today ) I just poored alittle straight gas in and when it fired up switched over to E85 that has been in the fuel cell since September. No problems at all.
I did a search, and closest one it showed was Tonawanda, please post the link to the one you used.

Just run a flex fuel sensor. I have one in my dart with the xfi works great. The only downside to e-85 in my book is you need to fill up more often. So I am getting this next
